Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
Liberty Campus - Proton Therapy Center
2 story, 96,600 SF proton therapy center for pediatrics, adults and research. The structure was built into a hill with a second level entry from an upper parking lot into the Children’s Blood Disorder Institute with separate lobby entrances for CCHMC pediatric and UC adult patients at grade. The building also tied into the existing Cincinnati Children’s Liberty Township Campus Hospital. The facility included 4 vaults, 1 vault dedicated to pediatrics, 1 vault dedicated to adults and 1 vault also with a full 360 degree rotational gantry dedicated to research(the only full gantry dedicated to research in the US), linear accelerator vault, PACU, lab, MRI, diagnostic imaging, central plant and ancillary clinical spaces to support both the pediatric and adult programs. Additionally all associated and required PTEV spaces i.e. power supply room, cyclotron vault, water supply, spare parts, maintenance etc. The BIM modeling deployed on this project has been the most dynamic so far for proton therapy construction. The placement of beam line conduit was reduced from 4 weeks to 1 day thru prefabrication.
