Proton Therapy Center
Proton Therapy Center Houston is dedicated to the clinical treatment of cancer tumors using moveable and fixed proton beams. This 84,000 SF facility was constructed in 2 separate sections; a below grade treatment level constructed of a mass concrete super structure, and above grade exam rooms and administrative space constructed of steel. Due to shielding requirements, 2/3 of the building is below grade. It has a synchrotron accelerator, beam line, 3 treatment gantries, a 360 degree rotating beam, a fixed beam room constructed of 8 ft thick concrete walls and a 14ft thick concrete roof over the synchrotron, PET scan, and a MRI and CT Simulation Suite. We coordinated the construction closely with the equipment supplier, Hitachi, located in Japan.
